FAQ and OIVA report

Why does the data say that the product is 100% full xylitol, but but the ingredients state that xylitol is 97-98%?

Xylitol is the only sweetener used in Hammaskeiju pastilles, therefore it is stated that the product is a 100% xylitol product. Hammaskeiju pastilles also contain 2-3% of flavoring and processing aids, resulting in a pastil xylitol content of 97-98%. Hammaskeiju pastilles have a higher xylitol content than many other similar products on the market.

Are Hammaskeiju pastilles made in Finland?

Hammaskeiju pastilles are manufactured at XyliMind Oy by staff with long-term experience in the field. XyliMind Oy's premises are located in Riihimäki, where Hammaskeiju pastilles are manufactured.

Why doesn't the Dental Fairies have the text "Finnish Dental Association recommends xylitol"?

The Department of Dentistry of the University of Turku has examined Hammaskeiju wild berries, pear, grapefruit, unflavoured and peppermint menthol-flavored pastilles and stated in its statement (9.3.2020) that the Hammaskeiju pastilles meet the criteria of the recommendation of the Finnish Dental Association. In order to use this recommendation text in our products, we should pay the Finnish Dental Association an annual fee in an amount that we have not considered appropriate so far.

Where does the xylitol you use come from?

The xylitol we use is mainly produced in Europe.

Where is the xylitol you use made from?

In addition to cellulose and lignin, most deciduous trees, oat peels, corn husks, and many other fibrous plants are rich in hemicellulose, especially xylan. It is a species of hemicellulose that is composed primarily of xylose molecules. Xylose, on the other hand, can be converted to xylitol.

Xylitol is present e.g. in berries and fruits also prepared naturally, but in such small quantities that it does not make industrial sense to isolate xylitol directly from them. Thus, xylitol is not a human invention, but its above-mentioned method of preparation is, as is the detection of the health effects of full xylitol.

The raw materials used in the production of xylitol vary, the main raw material we use as xylitol has hardwoods, but depending on the situation, other raw materials can also be used in the production. Therefore, we cannot say which of the above starting raw material has been used in the preparation of each batch of xylitol.

However, regardless of the raw material for the production of xylitol, the end product is the same xylitol, C5O12H5.
